Reflections Of Eureka Springs AR.
Wow! What a great time we had. This was our second year to visit Eureka Springs for the" 16th Annual 2008 JUST TRUCKIN' THRU Volkswagen Rally. It is about a 4 1/2 hour drive from Liberty. We headed South around 9:am and ran in and out of rain most of the way. Our find of the day was gas priced at 3.29 a gallon in Sarcoxie MO. Most of you know that this is old stomping ground for the Troxel family. Bill's parents were born and raised around the big town of Wentworth MO. It is always nice to see the spot in the road where they still
have the Robb family reunion in August.
South West Missouri is so beautiful but when you cross that Arkansas border it is Gods country! The hills and forest go forever. Eureka is such an inviting town. We always stay at Tall Pines Inn that was built in 1947. The historic cabin resort is just minutes from the heart of downtown Eureka Springs. The owners Carmen and Robert Caldwell are wonderful hosts and make us feel right at home.
There was a total of six buggy's from Pittsburg KS, Fort Scott KS, Iola KS and Liberty MO. The weather was not cooperating it rained most of the rest of the day Thursday. Friday morning was the same. Ever time we would start out on a run it would start raining. Usually we have a dozen runs through town and around the area. Finely it cleared Friday afternoon.
We invited our best friends, Marla and Dave up from Fort Smith. It was such a good visit just to short. We couldn't let them get away with out putting them in the buggy for a short run. As you will see from the pictures Marla and Dave had a great time. Friday evening brought plenty of old stories and laughter from all. Hopefully some day they will be joining us with their own toy!
Saturday morning it poured down. Everyone was just hoping that it would finish up so we could at least get the parade in. Around 2:p.m. the skies started to clear. The parade was on. Everyone dried off their buggies and we were off to line up for the Parade through down town Eureka.
It was plain to see that the weather didn't dampen the spirit of the town. There was hundreds of people lining the streets to enjoy the VW's.
Sunday brought warm sunshine. Thank God! Usually there is a country side tourcade but this year they had the time wrong on the sheet and we missed it as I am sure many others did. Our group took our own countryside tour. It was the same route as last year so we went on our own. It was a beautiful run.
The hardest thing to do is to leave. We had a little longer ride than the rest of the group so we said our good byes and headed home.
Our next gathering, I hope will be in Pittsburg KS for the Pittsburg State University Homecoming Parade on Oct. 18. Pray hard for good weather for us! It is a good time to catch up with our friends and our last run of the year. After the parade we catch a few beers and have some good eats at one of the local pizza shops.
Thanks to all for a great time!
More Photos to come!
Enjoy the photos!
